Anwar (2010) - Re-release Announcement

Hot on the heels, leading up to Bogainvillea's release, an announcement has got me waiting for something pretty exciting!

Amal Neerad's 2010 thriller flick 'Anwar' is slated for a re-release in October 2024. With the final date for re-release being fixed for October 25 2024, this will be a 4K remastered version, offering a cool rewatch experience for moviegoers. It’s a bilingual release, i.e both in Malayalam and Tamil. “Chellam, soukyama?” incoming from Prakash Raj xD.

It will be my first time watching Anwar onscreen and expectations are always high for an Amal Neerad film, then and now. Anwar was a trendsetter for an action film back in 2010, having a typical Amal Neerad signature embossed over it and has a good following till date amongst younger cinephiles.

Anwar was a training playground for Prithviraj to learn the basics of filmmaking, allowing him to lead his debut directorial film 'Luicifer' to the 150 crore club. It was a great bit of trivia to know about.

The theater experience is what will make it click and memorable for oneself and for the fans.

Prithviraj plays the lead role as a social vigilante, with the story surrounding the events of the 1998 Coimbatore Bombings. It will be a cool time experiencing Gopi Sundar's evergreen soundtrack, score and Lal's performance as the antagonist. Slow motion and back low floor shots galore.

Bring it on, Amal and keeping hopes for a good BO Collection upon re-release.

Hope that the churn of re-releases don’t go out of fashion any time soon. Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha and Amaram are reportedly in the pipeline. Can you give Big B a re-release? That would be cool!

Like that, Anwar joins the alley of the new fad, i.e wide re-release of movies in Malayalam. Spadikam, Devadoothan and Manichithrathazhu are the other movies to have a re-release in the last two years.

Update - The teaser for the re-release has dropped. Watch it below.

Black (2004) - Raw, Gritty and Stylish

"Black: The man from Darkness" Neo-noir films have that magical allure to excite people and to compel them to explore the greyer areas of the drama called life. For people that enjoy and have a sense of morbid curiosity about what happens in the darker avenues of life, this genre is a definite route to escapism. Black is one such attempt from the famed Ranjith-Mammooty combination and I respect the superstar for choosing such a dark and complex subject and playing the role to perfection. Churned from actor Lal's own Lal Release, Karikamuri Shanmughan or Kumari is an iconic character in Mammootty's long alley of iconic career characters and holds an undoubted sense of swag to this day.   Credits - Black (Simply South) Director Writer Release Date Genre Ranjith Ranjith
