The Cassette Player Collection: Sony WM-FX195 Walkman

Feeling a sense of thrill would be an understatement when I got to unpack this Walkman after 2 days of anxious waiting.

This is a second hand player that I ordered from VintageAudioCart, Kochi and would definitely label it a steal purchase, as compared to the pricey ones that I saw listed on EBay and Etsy. Buying a Fiio Cassette Player took a backseat when I noticed this beauty being listed for sale.

This is a WM-FX195 model with a silver finish and was first rolled out in sometime during the mid-late 1990's. As with cassette players designed then and now, it doesn't have speakers and one needs to plug in headphones / earphones to listen to the magic emanating from within

Features:-

  • Mega Bass
  • Mechanism to tune into FM Radio Channels
  • Headphone Jack

Sliding in the first tape was always going to be a challenge, having received delivery of 15 tapes a couple of minutes prior. Being a big fan of Udayananu Tharam's soundtrack which was composed by Deepak Dev, it had the privilege to be slid in, first for the debut.

Parayathe Ariyathe started crooning from the headphone set and a burst of flowers suddenly covered me with an admiration of retro music and it's beauty, listening to it, the old fashioned way!

For all the words of admiration being heaped, I am aware that this cassette player is an old piece and with no guarantee for repair, in case of any outward incident happening.

I am eyeing a couple of new players, while this can slide to the backseat for the occasional listening.

Black (2004) - Raw, Gritty and Stylish

"Black: The man from Darkness" Neo-noir films have that magical allure to excite people and to compel them to explore the greyer areas of the drama called life. For people that enjoy and have a sense of morbid curiosity about what happens in the darker avenues of life, this genre is a definite route to escapism. Black is one such attempt from the famed Ranjith-Mammooty combination and I respect the superstar for choosing such a dark and complex subject and playing the role to perfection. Churned from actor Lal's own Lal Release, Karikamuri Shanmughan or Kumari is an iconic character in Mammootty's long alley of iconic career characters and holds an undoubted sense of swag to this day.   Credits - Black (Simply South) Director Writer Release Date Genre Ranjith Ranjith
