Thoughts on Ivar (2003): A jot down

I came to know about this movie in recent days and can’t really wrap my head around what is going on. Went in expecting a raw, straight to the point movie. Closed the laptop with disappointment, with the realisation that Jayaram got mislead again for a project

With the word "mislead", I want to express Jayaram's need of the hour, then to accept roles out of his comfort zone. That did come to fruition in Ivar, but the script totally let this movie down, despite it's technical excellence - in the cinematography and editing department, and the effort put in by the cast.

Rajeev Kumar is one director that I respect, but this movie looks really bad, starting from the script.

Devi Ajith’s character was pointless. Me10, Biju chettan and Balachandran chettan looked handsome, but left me wondering why everything was conveniently falling into place to reach the climax

Anoop Menon’s character lets slip of his undercover identity easily, Me10 slaying an elderly dude while the latter was praying in open view left me dumbfounded, and Anil Murali’s character could’ve just given a nice thought before zeroing in on Me10 as the traitor in their circle.

Everything just conveniently falls in place for the climax to happen

Frames looked nice. Bhavana - Me10 pairing looked off. It should be a rule in the book that neo-noir movies should'nt be entertaining a love track. Totally threw me off the movie. Sure, a redemption track or a no-strings attached relationship maybe, but neo-noir movies should be treated in it's literal sense.

This movie could have been much more better As always, a film is an attempt and I respect both Me10 and Rajeev sir for creating one such film that we could discuss about

I wholeheartedly agree that my opinion may be off the mark.

Black (2004) - Raw, Gritty and Stylish

"Black: The man from Darkness" Neo-noir films have that magical allure to excite people and to compel them to explore the greyer areas of the drama called life. For people that enjoy and have a sense of morbid curiosity about what happens in the darker avenues of life, this genre is a definite route to escapism. Black is one such attempt from the famed Ranjith-Mammooty combination and I respect the superstar for choosing such a dark and complex subject and playing the role to perfection. Churned from actor Lal's own Lal Release, Karikamuri Shanmughan or Kumbhari is an iconic character in Mammootty's long alley of iconic career characters and holds an undoubted sense of swag to this day.   Credits - Bl...

Rosapoo (2018) - An Offbeat attempt at something bold

Rosapoo Movie Poster Source: IMBD Being an avid fan of films that handle quirky subjects, Rosapoo is one such effort from Malayalam Cinema, that remains unexplored by many. Handling the subject of the adult film industry that's set on the backdrop of the late nineties and early noughties, and it's impact on churning films that reigned supreme in the cinema kottakas (theaters) at that time .  It provides a curious snapshot of those forgotten and indecorous days of old, in the Malayalam Film Industry. Days that the Malayalam Film Industry would like to forget, memories that are stowed away into a silent and forgotten shutter in the attic of our minds.
